Children's Discovery Museum

The Children’s Discovery Museum is a hands on FREE interactive museum right here in Cowlitz County. It started out as a “pop-up” experience, but with community and volunteer effort it is now open two days a week for regular hours at the Three Rivers Mall since January 2017. It’s a place for children and families to enjoy a safe and fun environment where they can engage in imaginative play, the arts, science, and culture and to learn about the world around them. Exhibits include Farm to Market, Safe on the Water, Light Shadows, Dance Corner, Giant Lincoln Logs, Nature Niche, Wind Tunnel, Harmonographs, Laser Challenge, Lego tables, Puppet Theatre, Book Nook, and probably the biggest laughter and squealing generator, our Ping Pong Ball Shower! Since opening we have confirmed that this is exactly what the community wanted and needed. We see positive interactions between children and their parents as they experience the environment of joy and learning that we’ve created. As we did our research to create the museum, we asked kids and families “what was their favorite exhibit at a Children’s or Science museum?” To our surprise, the most common response was “we’ve never been to one.” We are filling a void in our community by bringing this kind of learning and hands-on play to children and families who wouldn’t otherwise travel out of our area to find a children’s museum. Children growing up in the world right now face so many challenges and obstacles on their road to learning. In the museum experience we are providing children the opportunity to build positive experiences that make a difference in their lives as well as their families’ lives. However, we need your help so we can continue offering these experiences. We want to stay open even more hours to share the Children’s Discovery Museum with our community. Together, we’ll show off southwest Washington’s spirit of giving, raise awareness about the Children’s Discovery Museum and celebrate the collective effort it takes to make this region great.
