Friends of Hospice Southwest Washington
To provide funds for the care of hospice patients through established hospice organizations in Southwest Washington. The established hospice organizations we work with are PeaceHealth Southwest Hospice, Hope Bereavement, The Ray Hickey Hospice House and Community Home Health & Hospice (CHHH), Salmon Creek who we have just added this year.
We continue to keep two respite funds available for PHSW and CHHH: $20,000.00 for PHSW and $10,000.00 for CHHH. These funds are specifically for family caregivers who are taking care of a loved one at home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Funds allow a 3-day (72 hour) time frame in which a licensed caregiving facility will take over that care, allowing the family members 3 entire days of rest away from the home. Most family caregivers do not have funds to pay for a professional caregiver - we will pay the costs for this 3-day rest. Forty percent (40 %) of caregivers of Alzheimer patients die before the patient ... as the caregiver ages, the percentage increases. As our population ages, more and more respite care will be needed to help these "at-home" caregivers. We will continue to increase our respite funds to keep up with demands. We have also contributed to CHHH's building fund to add another ten beds to their facility in Salmon Creek. $5,000.00 was given in 2016 and we will continue to help them with their goal.
