Salmon Creek Lions Foundation
To serve the humanitarian needs of our local and worldwide communities through voluntary service.
Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Lions are known as "knights of the blind," focusing on programs and services for the blind and visually impaired – and aim to eliminate preventable and reversible blindness. The Salmon Creek Lions Foundation's objective is to provide vision screening to preschool and school age children and their families in Clark County. This past year we have conducted community events and partnered with the Free Clinic and Head Start programs to provide vision screening to nearly 3,000 individuals. Our goal is to reach 3,000 by the end of 2017, a 50% increase to the number screened in 2015. The results of these vision screenings is that we have referred about 20% of those screened to trained eye specialists. Based on the work we have done so far we know there is a need in our community for this service to identify youth who may have sight problems and refer them for further examination. We would like to raise sufficient funds to maintain our two vision screening devices and purchase a mobile tented enclosure for use at outside community events where we encounter unfavorable light conditions.
