The Transitional Youth family of outreaches help provide opportunities of self-sufficiency, a healthy life and education to homeless and at risk youth in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan areas. We seek to transform both hearts and lives through compassion, guidance and the grace of God.
On September 1, 2017, Vida’s Ark in Vancouver, Washington became part of the Transitional Youth family of outreaches. Vida’s Ark was founded in 2007 as a long term shelter that offers safe, supportive living conditions to young mothers and their children. It is a place where young mothers learn how to become self-sufficient, healthy, and educated all while helping them become the nurturing parent that their children need. Vida’s Ark provides counseling that teaches the young women how to replace destructive habits with healthy lifestyle choices. The staff and volunteers at Vida’s Ark provide individual case management and mentoring to the young mothers so that they can have every opportunity to become the person they want to be. Transitional Youth is seeking to raise funds that will allow us to update Vida’s Ark. The home was built in 1932 and is in need of insulation to be added to the walls. The bedrooms, dining room, and living room are all in need of a fresh coat of paint and new blinds. We would like to purchase new bedding for each of the young mothers and their children as well as replace the well-used kitchen items with new pots, pans, and dishes to help the house become more like a home.
